Sheffield Doc Fest

In June 2026, Lexas and Joe were finally brought together in person as part of Sheffield Doc Fest. Over an intensive two days, they workshopped and created a verbatim piece of theatre about their journey towards each other, taking lines from their text exchanges and first live conversations. The piece wove together theatre, documentary, poetry, and XR gaming technology to create a hybrid piece that inhabits both real and virtual spaces, just like their Zoom-mediated friendship.

The piece reflects on the strange intimacy of long distance friendships conducted over a screen, the simultaneous closeness and distance, frustration and joy.
